Asia’s largest baby and kids e-commerce platform, FirstCry, announced the launch of its first outlet in Rawalpora, Srinagar, in an endeavour to have a wider reach.

The store, which is a franchisee, sprawls across 1,800 square feet and has an inventory of over 200 brands spread across 10 categories carefully displayed for consumers to see.

The company has been focusing on making progress in this category as India has the largest number of children in the world; however, the infant and kids’ apparel segment is still highly unorganised in the country.

The company maintained, in a statement, “FirstCry has already opened more than 380 stores across Tier I, II and III cities and aims to reach 450 by 2019. The industry forecast of a heavy boom in the retail market and increasing demand for baby & kids products makes Srinagar an important city in terms of expansion for FirstCry.”

Franchisee owner Daaiq said, “The parents don’t find a good variety of baby products easily in Srinagar. E-commerce marketplace Snapdeal has launched over 150 products of the popular Japanese low-cost brand, Miniso on its platform. The website is offering a large range of products from the brand, ranging from beauty, home decor, home furnishing and stationery to fashion and mobile accessories.

Miniso products are priced between Rs. 190 and Rs. 790 on Snapdeal. In partnership with the Japanese retailer, Snapdeal has expanded the selection of value-priced international brands available on its portal.

“Our merchandising strategy is focused on offering good quality merchandise for the value-conscious Indian consumers. We are very excited to bring Miniso’s cost-efficient products on our platform,” said a Snapdeal spokesperson.

Customers buying Miniso products on Snapdeal will get an additional 15 per cent instant discount on using Bank of Baroda credit cards, 15 per cent cashback on Citibank cards and 5 per cent instant discount on Snapdeal HDFC Bank credit cards.

Miniso has also partnered with B2B e-commerce portal Achhakart, for its online foray, nearly two years after its India entry. The retailer has also invested Rs. 5 crore for a small stake in Achhakart which will now be responsible for supplying the retailer’s goods to online marketplaces like Amazon, Flipkart, Snapdeal and Paytm Mall.

“Snapdeal’s core strength lies in serving customers in Tier-II and -III markets. This will help us reach more customers deep in India,” said Siddharth Venkataraman, CEO, Acchakart.
